Sie werden wie eine normale Brille aufgesetzt, es gibt jedoch unterschiedliche Befestigungsmöglichkeiten, die sich besonders im Outdoor-Einsatz bewährt haben. So gibt es Schutzbrillen, die mit einem Band am Hinterkopf befestigt werden. Dieses soll für einen sicheren Halt sorgen. Andere Schutzbrillen haben so genannte Sportbügel, die sich etwas mehr um das Ohr legen als normale Brillen, sodass sie auch bei härteren Aktivitäten nicht herunterfallen kann. Die Schutzbrillen werden mit einem Etui geliefert, in dem sie während des Nichtgebrauchs sicher aufbewahrt werden können. Das Etui ist kompakt und leicht zu handhaben. Sie haben oftmals ein getöntes Glas zum Schutz vor Sonne und UV-Licht, manche sogar nach der DIN-Norm EN 166 welche dann bis zu 100 % UV-Schutz bieten. Klassische Bügelvarianten sind ebenso erhältlich wie Modelle, die mit einem breiten Gurt am Hinterkopf befestigt werden und nicht verrutschen können. Die Gläser der Brillen bestehen aus speziellen Kunststoffen, die besonders hart und widerstandsfähig sind. Sie können nicht so einfach zerkratzen oder brechen\/splittern, wie dies bei normalen Brillen der Fall wäre. Die Gläser der Schutzbrillen haben verschiedene Tönungen und eignen sich so für unterschiedliche Einsatzzwecke. Es kann beim Hantieren mit Laugen, ätzenden Flüssigkeiten oder beim Auftragen von Holzschutz-Lasur gleichfalls ein Spritzer ins Auge gehen, wie beim Holz-Zerkleinern mit dem Häcksler oder beim Schnitzen schnell mal ein Splitter abplatzen kann. Deshalb wird ein Augenschutz empfohlen. Doch auch bei sportlichen Aktivitäten wie beispielsweise dem Softair-Sport, kann eine Schutzbrille mehr als empfehlenswert sein. Bei regulären Einsätzen mit Waffen gibt es dann noch sog. ballistische Modelle, die noch bruchfester sind.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch4\u003eWird eine spezielle Schutzbrille für das Ansehen einer Sonnenfinsternis benötigt?\u003c\/h4\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eJa, und zwar dringend. Die Helligkeit ist in dem Falle einer halben oder totalen Verdeckung der Sonne extrem gleißendes Licht am Rand übrig bleibt und die Dunkelheit sozusagen viel schlimmer überstrahlt. Alternativ gibt es auch entsprechende Filterfolien, die bspw. vor die eigene Brille oder eine Kamera gespannt werden können. Man kann solche Brillen meist ganz einfach erkennen, denn sie sehen aus wie mit einer Alufolie versehen. Ohne solch eine Brille darf man unter keinen Umständen in die Sonnenfinsternis sehen, da man sonst bleibende Schäden an den Augen davontragen kann. Achtung 1: Sonnenbrillen genügen den Anforderungen auf keinen Fall, egal wie dunkel sie sind.
