Hanwag has been manufacturing its boots in Germany for almost 100 years. The name is derived from the company founder Hans Wagner, who incorporated a then-new technique, the so-called double-stitching, into the production of his mountain and trekking boots.

The high quality of the partly hand-made boots made Hanwag famous beyond Germany's borders. When the company was handed over to foreign hands, the board at the time insisted that both the name and the production facilities had to be retained in Germany. Today, the company belongs to the Swedish Fenix ​​Group.
