It was personal experiences that gave company founder Hartmut Ortlieb the inspiration in rainy southern England: waterproof equipment is needed that people use outdoors and provide them with a certain level of comfort. Even though he was soaked through, he came up with an ingenious business idea and founded ORTLIEB Sportartikel GmbH in Nuremberg in 1982.
