In 1932, George G. Blaisdell founded the Zippo company in Bradford, Pennsylvania. He wanted to develop a lighter that looked good and was easy to use. After acquiring the rights to an Austrian storm lighter, he redesigned it according to his own ideas.

Blaisdell's design has remained virtually unchanged to this day. Since 1932, Zippo has produced over 300 million lighters. In 1962, the product line was expanded to include a 6-foot tape measure. Money clips, knives, writing instruments and key chains followed. However, the lighter has always remained Zippo's most popular product.

Zippo has built up an international distribution network. In many countries, the brand is synonymous with quality and craftsmanship 'made in the USA'.

The Tasmanian tiger runs and runs…

The name fits the company. The Tasmanian tiger was one of the largest predators in Australia. It was not the fastest, but it had the most endurance and could pursue its prey until it was exhausted. Its jaws, which could open up to 180°, also made it a dangerous opponent. The animal, which is threatened with extinction, was last seen in a protected area in Tasmania. All of these characteristics - hunting instinct, endurance and the will to survive - are reflected in the brand's products.
